LAWRENCE, Kan. – January 13, 2025 – Cedar and Sage Café, a new coffee shop and café in Stidham Hall at Haskell Indian Nations University, is now open to serve students, staff, and the campus community. The café officially opened its doors on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and a grand opening celebration is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24.

The name Cedar and Sage Café was selected through a student contest. Situated in the student union, the café represents a significant step in Haskell’s efforts to enhance campus facilities and provide new amenities for its community. The café offers a variety of options, including coffee, smoothies, iced coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and more.

“We are thrilled to launch this exciting new space on campus,” said Mackie Moore, Dean of the Haskell College of Business. “Besides being a community connection and relaxation hub, Cedar and Sage Café will create meaningful opportunities for student employment and growth.”

The café will provide a hands-on learning environment where student workers can gain practical experience in key areas of business operations, including menu development, customer service, pricing, inventory management and daily operations. Proceeds from Cedar and Sage Café will directly benefit students— supporting wages for student workers and providing supplemental funding for student activities.

“Haskell leadership is committed to providing an engaging and welcoming experience for our students, staff, community and visitors. Cedar and Sage Café represents progress in continuous improvement efforts,” said Dr. Frank Arpan, president of Haskell Indian Nations University.

Cedar and Sage Café is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Hours may expand based on customer feedback and demand.
